Though in close proximity to East Midtown Manhattan, East 62nd Street is a quiet side street. The house is surrounded by upscale restaurants, shopping and transportation.

The house is located one block from the 61st Street & Lexington train stop and 2 blocks from the 60th street/Lexington Avenue train stop (Bloomingdales). Central Park is two blocks away. The central and convenient neighborhood offers every possible amenity and convenience (shoe repairs, pharmacies, hair and nail salons, food shopping, etc.). Bloomingdales is two blocks away. This is the most convenient Upper East Side location, close to everything. Traveling out of the City is incredibly convenient from the house. The 59th Street Bridge is a few blocks from the house. There is an FDR exit on 63rd and York Avenue. There are several subway train lines 1 and 2 blocks away.

A flight up from the house’s entry foyer, on the parlor floor level, guests find perhaps the most unique of suites at 1871 House, the Garden Room.
You will be immediately transfixed by the massive floor-to-ceiling bow window which takes up most of the southern wall of the suite, but the real treasure is behind it: the private 500 square foot urban oasis that is the accompanying garden terrace, a truly rare find for an affordable New York City accommodation. The expansive, verdant cedar roof deck plays host to a multitude of roses, lavender, and other plants, with jardinières and wooden planters framing the deck furniture: a breezy teak bench, three lazy steamer lounge chairs, and a 9-foot umbrella.
Though some guests will no doubt want to spend much of their time on the terrace, the Garden Room itself makes an extraordinary place to return to for the night or the afternoon rest. Soaring 12-foot ceilings look down on this quiet room and its carved wood and marble fireplace mantle, tall Normandy armoire, unique four-poster queen-size bed, and mahogany Philadelphia breakfast table. The room’s daybed makes for an enticing nap spot! Another period throwback can be found in the southeast corner: a sculptured ceramic washbasin with wooden cabinet, augmenting the handbasin found in the bathroom.
Please note that there is no kitchen or access to a kitchen in the apartment. Provided is a small fridge, electric kettle, and sink in the room. The bathroom is a fully tiled, narrow space with antique style brass hardware and a merged shower and toilet area.

Set on a tree-lined street, the beautiful brownstone building is situated in the much sought after LENOX HILL neighborhood of the Historic Upper East Side section of Manhattan and a 5-minute walk to CENTRAL PARK. Bloomingdales & Barneys New York (Madison Avenue) are within a couple of blocks away. Yet, the house is only three blocks from bustling Midtown Manhattan and some of the City's fabulous and world renown Museums & galleries including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Met Breuer, MoMA and the Frick Museum. Carnegie Hall is 9 minutes away by Taxi or an 18 minute walk. Among subway lines near the house are the 4, 5, 6, F, R & N and the new Q extension just 1 and 2 blocks from the house. Located at the southernmost end of the Upper East Side, the brownstone is nestled among stylish brownstones and stately townhouses on a beautiful tree-lined residential block. Flanked by prestigious Park and Lexington Avenues, the house is set amid Manhattan's most elegant neighborhood on the Upper East Side and is just a stroll away from Central Park and Times Square. The brownstone is at the epicenter of a chic and bustling neighborhood, many of the Upper East Side's finest restaurants are in close proximity, as are Madison Avenue's chic boutiques and stylish cafes. Neighborhood antique shops, galleries, specialty stores and world-renowned museums are within easy walking distance. We regret we cannot accommodate pets. Apartment accessible via main staircase.
